Pop-Up Cinema

Beginning in June 2020, the Blue River Arts Council purchased the equipment to show outdoor movies, and held several COVID-safe, socially distanced drive-in type movie experiences for free for the community. This involved the help of:

• Crete Public Schools, who let us use their parking lot, and the high school cheerleaders and National Honor Society students who volunteered to help;
• Doane University fraternities, who helped set up the screen;
• Crete Police Department, who helped provide traffic control;
• The Public Health Solutions Department, who approved our social distance plan
• The City of Crete

Other communities and businesses learned we had the equipment, and requested our assistance to help their community project as well. When spectators were not allowed to attend the high school football game, we broadcast it downtown in conjunction with the Crete Chamber’s “Main Street Eats” event. Community members could order dinner from restaurants on Main Street, eat out doors and watch the game on the big screen.
